Are HolidayCoro controllers Compatible With LOR Controllers and Software?

Are your controllers LOR Compatible?

Are HolidayCoro RGB Pixel Controllers Light-o-Rama compatible?

See the information below on how to determine compatibility between Light-o-Rama software and hardware and industry standard HolidayCoro controller hardware. It is first to understand that the question of LOR compatibility starts with two major technical areas:

  • Hardware
    • There are two classes of Light-o-Rama controllers based on their communication method and this affects how they talk with other systems:
      • RS485 Interface / LOR Protocol (proprietary)
        • Pixie - Lightweight pixel controllers in 8 and 16 outputs
        • CTB16PC / LOR1602 / LOR1600 / Residential 16 / CTB04 - AC Lighting Controllers
        • Color Cosmic Packages - CCB, CCP
        • CMB24 - DC RGB Controller
      • Ethernet Interface / e1.31 DMX over TCP/IP (public published open standards)
        • PixCon - Medium density, 16 output pixel controller, works with all modern sequencing software
  • Software
    • Light-o-Rama S5 Software comes in two classes
      • Basic, Basic Plus, Standard
        • These versions of the software only work with RS485 / LOR Protocol controllers
        • Can only be used with 100% LOR protocol based controllers
        • Cannot be used with industry standard controllers
      • Advanced, PRO
        • These versions of LOR software work with the proprietary LOR protocol AND standards based protocols including e1.31 based DMX including all HolidayCoro e1.31 pixel controllers
    • Note: We do not recommend using LOR versions of software 4.x.x or lower either with LOR hardware or with our hardware due to the huge improvements in quality from version 4.x to 5.x

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can I plug a cable from my LOR AC, Pixie or Color Cosmic controller directly into a HolidayCoro controller (AlphaPix Classic, AlphaPix Evolution, HinksPix Pro)?
A: No, these legacy controllers use an older and slower interface called RS485 that isn't compatible with the modern Ethernet based interface on e1.31 pixel controllers sold by HolidayCoro.
